Antique porcelain box for incense, kogo, dream of Fuji, falcon and eggplant, Japan
Small covered box for storing incense, called kogo. Hand-modeled in the shape of Mount Fuji. Near the top of the mountain flies a falcon (relief applique) and at the foot of the mountain are three eggplants. This grouping refers to the first dream of the New Year, hatsuyume. To dream of Mount Fuji, a falcon and an eggplant on the first night of the New Year is considered good luck.
