Large square platter with rounded corners, scalloped rims and an uneven surface. Yellowish cream-colored stoneware that turned orange-brown by the fire, covered in a gray-blue finely crackled glaze with greenish spots.
Signed on the back: Getsu (Yamanaka Gesson).

Comes with the original wooden storage box. The cover is inscribed ‘square dish’, signed ‘Gesson saku’ and with a red artist’s seal (getsu). Also included is the original blue cotton wrapping cloth with the seal of the artist.
Yamanaka Gesson (b. 1943) studied pottery under Yoshika Taibi. He is affiliated with the Oya kiln that was established in Hagi in 1976. His work is a Hagi ware blend, done in different clays and using with various glazes.
