Elegant water jug or mizusashi, used for the tea ceremony, to scoop fresh water from, to make matcha tea. In the shape of a bamboo segment with a "knot" (dividing membrane). Fitted stoneware cover.

Grayish stoneware with yellow and green (ash) glazes and some engraving. Signature stamped into bottom: Hikoshiro.

Japan, Shigaraki, Showa era, 1980s-early 1990s.
